LaSalle Station owner and 11 taxing districts reach new assessment agreement

The company that owns LaSalle Station and 11 taxing districts have agreed on how much the company should pay in property taxes on the nuclear power plant for the next five years. LaSalle Station will be assessed with a $530 million tax value, up from $465 million in the expiring agreement. Constellation Energy will pay no more than $26 million per year.

The agreement came up at last week’s LaSalle County Board meeting. It’s also going before the boards of Seneca High School, Seneca Grade School, Seneca Library District, Seneca Fire Protection District, Marseilles Fire Protection District, South Prairie Park District, Brookfield Township, Brookfield Township Road District, Allen/Brookfield Multi-Township Assessment District, LaSalle County, and Illinois Valley Community College.

An agreement like this is worked out every few years because the company and tax assessors are at odds over how to assess a nuclear power plant. But everyone would rather avoid the cost and risk of a court case.
