Water (and money) saving tips from Illinois American Water

By Billy Thompson Jul 18, 2020 | 5:03 PM

Illinois American Water is advising people to use water carefully. Of course, it makes more money if people use more of it. But spokeswoman Karen Cotton says the company believes in protecting a precious resource that we all need. She says one way to save water is to think about when you really need to water your lawn and other outdoor plants.

If it’s going to rain, you can just let nature water the lawn and garden for you. You may need to tell the programmable sprinkler to take the day off. And probably, your grass doesn’t need water every day.

Cotton says you can also capture rainwater with a rain barrel to use in your garden.

Or when the kids are done in the kiddie pool, use that water for the yard.
