THURSDAY BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Marquette cruises to 12th straight win

Marquette 15, Putnam County 5 (6 innings)

GRANVILLE – Dylan Gerding had two hits and four RBIs for the Crusaders (13-1, 6-0), who won for the 12th straight game.

Logan Komater drove in three runs on two hits, Nate Melvin and Kyle Cook plated two runs apiece, and Joe Hawks scratched out three hits and an RBI on the day.

Gary Duffield earned the win in relief after allowing one earned run in 1 1/3 innings.

Sterling 10, Ottawa 2

STERLING – Nick Frye hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to account for the Pirates’ only runs of the day, and Ben Kowalski and Dane Eich tallied two hits apiece for Ottawa (9-9, 3-2).

Blake Carlson took the loss after being chased in Sterling's seven-run third inning.

Seneca 15, Gardner-South Wilmington 5 (6 innings)

SENECA – Sam Grushkin went 4-for-4 with five RBIs for the Fighting Irish. Hunter Simon homered sa part of a 2-for-3 day, while Cody Altman and Myles Mitchell each knocked in a pair of runs for Seneca.

Colt Aldrich was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs, two earned, over six innings.

Somonauk 2, Serena 1

SOMONAUK – Ryan Lumsden hit the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning to support John Johnson, who struck out 14 and limited the Huskers to just three hits in the game. Ben Svoboda also drove in a run for Somonauk (11-1, 7-0).

Jarrid Thorpen, Connor Baker and Austin Jones had the hits for Serena (8-5, 4-1). Jones struck out 10 and allowed two earned runs in a tough-luck loss.
