THURSDAY SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Ottawa routs Rochelle to win 7th straight; Somonauk's Fall tosses perfect game, homers twice

Ottawa 20, Rochelle 4 (5 innings)

ROCHELLE – Cassie Claus went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for the Lady Pirates (10-3, 5-2), who won for the seventh straight game. Lexi Ruger also homered for Ottawa, finishing with three RBIs, and Bailey Simpson plated three runs on the day.

In addition, Jenna Nink tripled and knocked in two runs, and Jazzy Bowman singled twice and drove in two runs. Ottawa pinged out 17 hits and scored in every inning of the ballgame.

Dana Smeets allowed three runs over four innings of relief to earn the win.

Marquette 16, Putnam County 2

GRANVILLE – Makena McConnaughhay hit a grand slam and Allie Snook added a two-run shot for the Lady Crusaders (15-3, 6-0).

Snook finished a triple shy of the cycle, finishing with three RBIs in the contest. Makenna Tkach, Aurora Flavel and Aubrey McCallum also tallied RBIs for Marquette.

Tkach struck out 12 in the complete game victory.

Seneca 12, Gardner-South Wilmington 2 (6 innings)

SENECA – Britney Helms went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and four stolen bases for the Lady Irish (15-4), who have won five straight. Kyle Winsor added two hits including a double, driving in three runs on the day.

Rachel Sangston went the distance, allowing one earned run and striking out five in the ballgame.

Somonauk 10, Serena 0 (6 innings)

SOMONAUK – Tayler Fall tossed a perfect game for Somonauk (13-4, 7-0), fanning 11 hitters in the game. She also hit a grand slam, a double and a walk-off inside-the-park home run to finish with seven RBIs on the day.

Brianna Engel struck out six for Serena (7-7, 6-1), allowing six earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.
