Ottawa lost at home to Kaneland 2-0 to even the season series in the Interstate 8 Conference.

Abi Claus and McKenzie Oslanzi each had two hits for The Lady Pirates.

 

Marquette rallied at home in the seventh to outscore Lexington 7-6 at June Gross Field.

The winning pitcher for the Lady Crusaders was Lindsey Kaufman with five earned runs and six strikeouts.

 

Serena won on the road at Earlville 4-0.

PitcherTaylor Staton finished with four strikeouts for the Lady Huskers.

 

The Seneca Lady Irish were winners at home over Newark 7-2.

Maggie Carpenter struck out eleven batters in the victory.

 

Over in baseball at Ottawa High School The Pirates and Sycamore were tied at five in the tenth inning and just after two pitches there was a medical emergency to a spectator and the game was suspended. The contest will resume if the game affects the final standings and team’s placement. If not, it will be recorded as a tie.

 

Marquette easily handled Lexington 12-2 in five innings at Marinelli Field.

Logan Nelson doubled, homered, and drove home four runs for the Crusaders.

 

Also in baseball, The Seneca Irish had a combined effort at home on the mound from pitchers Cole Underhill and A.J. Stiegler in the victory over Gardner 9-1.

 

Ottawa won at Streator 3-2 in Varsity Tennis.

For the Pirates Adam Gross won in singles, The team of  Daniel Reinhardt/Logan Goetsch and partners Sebastian Cabrera/Ethan Hancock were winners in doubles.

The Bulldogs Davey Rashid won in singles and the team of Max Baker and Cooper Wahl won in doubles.

 

The LP Cavaliers hosted and defeated Dunlap and Pontiac in a triangular meet in wrestling.

Winners for the Cavaliers were Zach Znaniecki, Greg Williams, Gunnar Skoog, Austin Christmann, Trenton Johnson, Connor Lorden, Rylan Poole and Gage Swiskoski.

 

In track and field at the Seneca Irish invite, The Lady Irish dominated the girl’s division with a score of 198. Streator finished eighth, Marquette placed eleventh, and Serena Finished fifteenth.

Pontiac earned first in the Boys division with Seneca taking third, Streator placing tenth and Marquette finishing twelfth.

 

Keep the radio on tonight for White Sox baseball when the South-Siders start a three-game home series against the St Louis Cardinals at Guaranteed Rate Field. Lance Lynn will take the mound to face the Cards. The pre-game starts at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10 pm.

Yesterday the Sox lost on the road to the Yankees 5-4. Jose Abreu, Yasmani Grandal, and Andrew Vaughn all homered for the Pale Hose.

 

Javier Báez’s tenth inning two-run homer gave the Cubs a 2-1 extra inning win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The Cubs visit the Pirates tomorrow.

 

In the WNBA, the Sky lost 93-85 to the New York Liberty in their home opener at Wintrust Arena.

 

The Fire defeated Miami 1-0 at Soldier Field in the MLS.

 

Over the weekend Phil Mickelson made history by becoming the oldest golfer to win a Major on the PGA Tour at 50 years old.
