Lady Pirates win home meet

OTTAWA – Ottawa hosted a five-team meet at Catlin Park, scoring the team victory in the girls’ race and placing third overall in the boys’ event.

Grace McGettigan reached the finish line first in the girls’ race in 22 minutes, 35 seconds. Hallie Hellman was fourth (24:38), Eva Heimsoth finished ninth (25:47) and Gianna Corsolini (26:01) was 10th for the Lady Pirates. The four top-10 finishes put Ottawa ahead of Plano 21-31, with Hall and Mendota not fielding full teams.

Liam Tipple had the top finish for the Ottawa boys, crossing the line ninth in 21:10. Ottawa tallied 58 points, behind Plano (21) and Mendota (48). Hall and Earlville had only individual runners compete.


Streator knocks off Wilmington


Marquette 2, Serena 1

SERENA – Makayla Backos had a single and a double, and Grace Dose drove in a run for Marquette. Maura Condon struck out eight batters over six innings of four-hit, one-run ball. Alyssa Zellers recorded the final three outs for the save.

Paisley Twait recorded three hits and Serena’s lone RBI. Maddie Glade allowed two unearned runs and struck out seven in a tough-luck loss.


Streator Northlawn 10, Shepherd 7

STREATOR – Jack Henson drove in two runs, Garrett Cupples singled twice and stole two bases, and Julian Alexander ripped a double and scored three times for Shepherd (6-3). All 10 of Northlawn’s runs were unearned.

Marquette defeats Serena


Kishwaukee def. IVCC, 25-23, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18

MALTA – Putnam County alum Kaitlyn Edgcomb led the Eagles (1-5, 0-1) with 10 kills and 21 digs. Fellow former Lady Panther Presley Hatton also recorded 10 kills, and PC alum Madison Solomon served six aces to go with 13 digs.

Princeton graduate Kaylee Hammerich finished with six kills and 23 digs, and Hall alum Gertie Savitch led the defense with 42 digs.


IVCC 5, Waubonsee 4

LA SALLE – Streator alum Jennifer Romero teamed with La Salle-Peru graduate Karlee Arjes to earn an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

L-P alums Grace Filipiak (7-5, 4-6, 10-7), Nena Perry (6-1, 6-2) and Tyler Krill (6-1, 6-0) earned singles wins for the Eagles (2-0). Kroll and Filipiak scored an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles as well.
