Ottawa overwhelmed by Peoria Notre Dame, listless in loss to Northridge Prep

PLANO – At the Plano Christmas Classic, a 15-0 run in the first quarter Friday night doomed the Pirates in a 65-35 loss to tournament No. 1-seed Peoria Notre Dame. Drew Kaufman tallied 14 points and Myles Tucker had 10 points for Ottawa.

Saturday, Ottawa never led for the second straight night in a 54-42 loss to No. 4 Northridge Prep. Myles Tucker had 15 points for the Pirates (6-5), which shot 28 percent for the game and was outrebounded 36-27 for the contest.

Ottawa plays No. 10 Morris in the seventh-place game today at 1:45 p.m.

Streator wins twice to reach Plano consolation final

PLANO – The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (7-4) take on host and fifth-seeded Plano in the Christmas Classic’s consolation championship game today at 3:15 p.m.

Marquette falls into 13th place game at Marseilles

MARSEILLES – At the Marseilles Holiday Tournament, after a hard-fought 70-63 loss to third-seeded Somonauk in the consolation quarterfinals Friday night, the Crusaders suffered a 54-52 defeat to Putnam County on Saturday morning.

Sean Kissel had 22 points and Nate Melvin added 18 points for Marquette in Friday night’s loss. Kissel added 22 points and Melvin contributed 13 points in Saturday’s defeat.

Marquette (5-8) plays Woodland in the 15th-place game today at 9 a.m. as both teams try to avoid going winless for the tournament.

Seneca advances to Marseilles consolation championship

MARSEILLES – Also at the Marseilles Holiday Tournament, Seneca pounded Putnam County in the consolation quarterfinals Friday, 53-29. T.J. Van Ness finished with 13 points, Ben Krause chipped in 12 points and Cody Carey finished with 11 points for the Fighting Irish.

Seneca followed that win with a 44-40 triumph over Somonauk on Saturday. Van Ness had 11 points as the Fighting Irish (8-5) advanced to the consolation final against Saint Bede today at 1:30 p.m.

Serena to play for 11th at Marseilles

MARSEILLES – After an opening-round loss at the Marseilles Holiday Tournament, Serena bounced back with a 61-32 rout of Woodland in the consolation quarterfinals Friday. Ben Shagrue had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskers, while Tony Pusateri added 13 points.

It did not go as well for Serena on Saturday in an 82-59 loss to Saint Bede. Hunter Posner had 21 points and Pusateri had 19 points, but no other Huskers tallied more than six points.

Serena (6-6) plays Somonauk for 11th place today at 12 p.m.

Marquette to play Serena for fifth at Amboy Holiday Tournament

AMBOY – The Lady Crusaders fell to Indian Creek on Friday, 58-52, then dropped a 64-23 decision to state-ranked Amboy on Saturday.

Emma Thomas tallied 15 points for Marquette in the loss to Indian Creek. Thomas led Marquette (8-7) with seven points against Amboy.

Katie Baker led Serena with 17 points and Taylor Staton followed with 10 points in the Lady Huskers’ 45-34 loss to Hall on Friday. Serena then defeated Somonauk on Saturday, 45-29.

Marquette plays Serena (8-8) for fifth place today at 4:30 p.m.
