Anyone who pays the water bill in Oglesby is in for an unpleasant surprise.
The city council on Monday voted to double water and sewer rates.
Commissioner Jason Curran says it’s the right thing to do.
The base rate of people in the city of $15.91 will increase by five percent each year for the next ten and then drop to two percent increases.
Curran says the wastewater treatment plant is being overwhelmed when it rains – in part due to people dumping storm water into the sanitary sewer system.
Excess water has to be dumped into the Vermilion River.
The base rate for rural residents will be $31.92.
