A weather spotter training event has been scheduled at Illinois Valley Community College for April 9. Connie Brooks, director of the LaSalle County Emergency Management Agency, says weather spotters aren’t the people who chase tornadoes or get flood footage. But they’ll report such things, observing things that give the National Weather Service important details.
Human eyes are needed because radar systems that find water drops in the air can’t always tell how much is actually falling.
Brooks says the weather spotter classes are updated, so if it’s been two or more years since you’ve been to one, you could learn a lot with a refresher.
