On Friday, February 7, 2020 the 1969-70 Boys Basketball Team and Gary Woods will be inducted into the John Pociavasek Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the sophomore boys basketball game. After the varsity game everyone is invited to the Knights of Columbus for cake. Also at the K of C Hall after the game Bob Guyette will be conducting a meet and greet as Marquette kicks off the Bob Guyette Scholarship.
*The 1969-70 was the first team in the history of the school to win a District and Regional Title. The team was coached by Bob Strickland. In the District Marquette defeated Serena and Earlville to set up the District Championship Game against Seneca. Marquette defeated Seneca 79-61. In the Regional Marquette defeated Yorkville and Ottawa to set up a Regional Title Game with Streator at Streator. Marquette defeated the Bulldogs 58-57 to claim the Regional Title. In the Sectional at Normal, Marquette defeated Pontiac before losing to LaSalle-Peru in the Sectional Title Game.
Coach Strickland’s team finished the season with a school record of 26 wins. The team was led by senior captain Tim Anderson and All Stater and future Kentucky Wildcat Bob Guyette.
