County computer crash halts document recording, cripples FOIA requests

Output has come to a halt at the LaSalle County Recorder of Deeds Office because of the computer problems affecting county government. Recorder Karen Miller says documents are coming in, but mortgages, deeds, military discharge papers, and everything else isn’t getting very far. Everything’s being looked over, but it’s put in a to-do stack.

Miller says looking up documents in the computer system and getting copies of them is limited. Anyone who needs to do that should call first to find out if it’s possible. A veteran who visited Monday wanted copies of his military discharge papers and couldn’t get them.

Since the county offices can’t receive email, anyone with a Freedom of Information Act request will have to mail it or deliver it in person.
