Virus affects Sheridan Correctional Center

Sheridan Correctional Center is one of two prisons in the Illinois Department of Corrections system affected by the corona virus. A contract worker there tested positive for it.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says the prison’s inmates and staff are of low to medium risk. The IDPH says the prison is on a two-week lockdown.

The Illinois Department of Corrections says all of its prison and work camps are on administrative quarantine. Movement within the facilities is limited to minimize the virus’ spread, and in-person visits aren’t allowed right now. Telephone and video visiting privileges are still allowed.

Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill is the other Illinois prison affected by the virus. The IDPH says two inmates and one employee tested positive for it.
