Parks are closed–mostly

You can walk, hike, run, or bike in city parks in Illinois. But Ottawa Police Chief Brent Roalson says you can’t use the playground equipment, ball diamonds, or tennis courts. That’s part of the shutdown ordered to slow the corona virus’ spread.

Some cities or park districts may be stricter than others, closing all trails too. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail is closed, although signs haven’t been up at all the access points telling people going there this week. Anywhere you are allowed to be, you’re still supposed to stay six feet away from other people and not be assembled in groups larger than ten.

WCMY News has asked about the trail appearing open although officially closed. When we receive IDNR’s reply, we will provide it.

Some people aren’t aware of the Illinois and Michigan Canal being closed toward the center of Ottawa. It looks open.
