Big demand for for internet service for homebound students

With so many children learning at home these days, internet companies are getting a lot of requests for high-speed service installations. Mediacom offers something for those who otherwise might not be able to afford it. Spokeswoman Phyllis Peters says the Connect-2-Compete service is meant for people who have a child in school who qualifies for a free or reduced price meal.

The company is offering to waive installation fees and provide the first two months free. After that, it’s $9.95 per month. Peters says there have been hundreds of installations on that program every week instead of just dozens like usual. There’s more information at this link.

Mediacom has also figured out ways of minimizing close-up interaction between customers and technicians who install and repair cable connections. Peters says in many cases the customer can do the indoor work himself or herself. Either a package of equipment and supplies is shipped to the customer or the technician provides it at the door.
