Congressman and challenger on George Floyd death

By WCMY News Jun 4, 2020 | 2:05 PM

Cong. Adam Kinzinger says what happened to George Floyd makes him sick. He also says the right to protest doesn’t include the right to deface U.S. memorials, burn historic buildings, and loot businesses. The Channahon Republican says the country still has a long way to go to achieve the ideal of fair and humane treatment at every level of the justice system from the street officer to the final judgment. He says he’s eager to support bipartisan efforts to fix the system and deliver America’s promise to all. He says government can change laws but not hearts, so he’s asking everyone to look inside and heed God’s command to love one another.

LaSalle Democrat Dani Brzozowski, who’s challenging Kinzinger, also says the work of eliminating police brutality begins with hard self-evaluation. She also says legislative change isn’t enough and people have to eliminate racism from their hearts. But she says people should have done it before and she says Kinzinger has been silent too long on the matter.
