IVCC scholarship will honor Vietnam veteran

A new scholarship at Illinois Valley Community College will be for Army veterans pursuing a career in electrical work or nursing.

The “Home of the Free because of the Brave” scholarship was formed by the widow of Vietnam veteran Terry Maloy, a Princeton native, who died of cancer thought to be related to Agent Orange exposure last year.

Maloy worked for the city of Princeton as a lineman electrician, and eventually, as superintendent of the department.

He had a daughter who was killed in a car crash in 2007 shortly after completing IVCC’s registered nurse program. He, and his wife Patricia, created a scholarship to honor her in 2013.
