LaSalle County asking for $60 million in case over addictive pain killers

LaSalle County State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly says the county is asking for $60 million in the opioid drug lawsuit. That would cover damages that have happened since 2003 and that are expected through 2040. She says the estimates are based on the costs for drug treatment programs, addiction prevention, health care, law enforcement, criminal justice, and lost tax revenue.

Donnelly says the amounts don’t consider interest, punitive damages, and other things that some may think should influence the figures upward. And there could be offsets from amounts already covered by federal grants for the programs.
