Ottawa public works employees to return to previous scheduling after grievance settlement

Ottawa Public Works employees will return to the shift scheduling they had before the new year started. New hires in the department will also get one year probationary periods instead of just six months. Those changes are in grievance settlements that the City Council approved last night.

Mayor Dan Aussem says the Tuesday through Saturday shift was supposed to save overtime costs, but it hasn’t and it has only frustrated employees who have to work on Saturday.

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees filed the grievances.
