Numerous power outages were left in the wake of severe storms that produced wind gusts of more than 50mph and very heavy rain across northern Illinois Saturday night. Tornado sirens caused some confusion in Peru and Ottawa. The city of Ottawa sent a Nixle notice to cell phones stating that the National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning. However, it had not. But straight line wind gusts can also be damaging and deadly, so it was still a good idea to take shelter.
