By Billy Thompson Jul 13, 2020 | 3:31 PM

LaSalle Police Lt. Michael Smudzinski will take over as Chief of Police in just a few days. He’s been with the LaSalle Police Department for nearly 23-years and has been in investigations for about 16-years.

Smudzinski got into police work after his brother did an internship with Peru police. He says investigative work intrigued him. Smudzinski worked in accounting before that.

His main goal for time being is to transition into the chief’s job. WCMY asked Smudzinski about the movement to defund police departments.

Longtime Chief Robert Uranich is retiring.
