Tuesday Sports Update

Yesterday The Daily Times (Friday night drive) reported, The L-P highschool football team had to cancel its workout Monday after a coach’s family member tested positive for COVID-19. School officials consulted with the La Salle County Health Department and the team is cleared to resume workouts today. The coach has not tested positive for the virus nor has he shown any symptoms.

Eloy Jiménez drilled a grand slam in the first to propel the White Sox to a 5-3 exhibition victory over the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Dallas Keuchel (KIE-KEL) allowed one hit over five innings for the win. The Sox’s final tune up before their season opener Friday is at home tomorrow night against the Brewers. You can catch all the White Sox games this season right here on 1430 WCMY. 

 The St Louis Cardinals pitching rotation is set for the start of the shortened 2020 season. The Cards’ starting rotation will consist of Jack Flaherty, Adam Wainwright, Dakota Hudson, Miles Mikolas and Carlos Martínez. Flaherty will be the Opening Day starter Friday night against the Pirates at Busch Stadium.

 The NFL and its players union have agreed to daily coronavirus testing.  According to ESPN, a league memo states daily testing would be required for the first two weeks.  If the positive percentage is below five percent, testing would scale back to every other day.  Also the NFL is reportedly extending its players union an offer of no preseason.  According to multiple reports, the league is making an offer of zero preseason games this season.  The NFLPA has reportedly yet to make a decision as they work on the financials with the NFL.

NASCAR will head to Kansas Thursday.  The Cup Series will run the Super Start Batteries 400.  Austin Dillon enters the race riding high after winning at Texas this past Sunday.  His teammate Tyler Reddick finished second.

 There is good news coming out of the NBA’s Orlando bubble, there have been zero positive tests for coronavirus out of 346 since the latest round of tests on July 13th.  Teams and players have been working together to follow protocols as they get ready to resume action at the end of this month.
