Thursday Sports Update

The White Sox dropped their final exhibition game to the Brewers 5-3 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Nicky Delmonico smacked a two-run homer in the loss.  The Sox began the season tomorrow night by hosting the Twins with Lucas Giolito taking the mound.

 Willson Contreras belted two home runs to help the Cubs beat the Twins 4-3 at Wrigley Field in their final exhibition game.  Anthony Rizzo added a two-run homer for Chicago while returning from a back injury.  The Cubs host the Brewers tomorrow night in their season opener.  Kyle Hendricks takes the mound against Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff.

The Cardinals defeated the Royals 6-3 at Busch Stadium in the final tune-up before their season opener. The Cards kick off the season tomorrow night by hosting the Pirates

The 60-game shortened MLB season will officially get underway tonight.  The defending World Series Champion Washington Nationals will host the New York Yankees in interleague action.  In the night cap, the Los Angeles Dodgers will face  rivals, the San Francisco Giants.

The Chicago Red Stars are moving on to play for the NWSL Challenge Cup title after holding on for a 3-2 semifinal win over Sky Blue. Chicago will face the Houston Dash in Sunday’s championship.

The Chicago Fire  face Vancouver Whitecaps this morning to close out the group play of the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando. The Fire fell 2-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday. 

 NBA action is underway in the bubble in Orlando.  The Clippers and Magic kicked things off with a scrimmage. More scrimmage games are on tap for today, including the Lakers taking on the Mavericks.

The 3M Open tees off today at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine Minnesota.  Some of the top golfers in the world are in the field including Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.

NASCAR tonight in Kansas. The Super Start Batteries 400 will get underway as Kevin Harvick takes the pole for tonight’s race.
