Friday Sports Update

The  Sox start the season with a series against the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Lucas Giolito takes on Minnesota’s José Berríos.

 The Cubs open the season tonight by hosting the Brewers.  Kyle Hendricks takes the mound against Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff.  David Ross is set to make his managerial debut for Chicago.  Also Derek Dietrich is joining the Cubs.  The veteran second baseman agreed to a Minor League contract last night with Chicago.

The Cardinals are set for their season opener tonight against the Pirates at Busch Stadium.  Jack Flaherty gets the start against Pittsburgh’s Joe Musgrove. 

The Official Opening Day was yesterday with 2 games. The Yankees beat the Nationals 4-1 in a rain-shortened debut that ended in the sixth inning in Washington DC.  Out west, the Dodgers scored five runs in the seventh to beat the Giants 8-1.

Also congratulations  to Ottawa’s own Michael Hermosillo for making the opening day roster with the Los Angeles Angels.

The Chicago Fire fell 2-0 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando. With the loss, the Fire have been eliminated from the tournament.

Richy Werenski is atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota. 

 Denny Hamlin is in the victory lane once again.  Hamlin won the NASCAR Super Start Batteries 400 at the Kansas Speedway.

 The NFL team formerly known as the Washington Redskins has a new temporary name.  The team will be known as the Washington Football Team for the 2020 season. 

Legendary boxer Mike Tyson age 54 is returning to the ring.  Roy Jones Junior (who is 51) will be his opponent in an eight-round exhibition set for September 12th in Carson, California.
