Tuesday Sports Update

 The White Sox and Indians play a doubleheader today after yesterday’s series opener was postponed due to inclement weather.  Dylan Cease will make his 2020 debut in Chicago’s road opener in Game one, while Carlos Rodón will make his first start in the nightcap.  Pre-game begins at 1:35 with the first pitch at 2:30 here on 1430 WCMY Your home for White Sox Baseball. 

Jon Lester tossed five no-hit scoreless innings as the Cubs held on for a 8-7 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati.  Jeremy Jeffress earned the save after entering the game with bases loaded and one out in the 9th.  The four-game series continues tonight with Alec Mills facing the Reds.  Chicago improved to 3-and-1.

 Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks is getting praise for his performance in the club’s season opener.  The right-hander was named the first National League Player of the Week  after he tossed a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks against the Brewers this past Friday.  

 The Cardinals visit the Twins tonight.  Carlos Martínez gets the start against Minnesota’s Homer Bailey.  St. Louis had a day off yesterday after taking two out of three against the Pirates to start the season. 

Less than one week into the season and The MLB schedule is already feeling the impact of the coronavirus.  Monday’s Marlins-Orioles game in Miami and the Yankees-Phillies game in Philadelphia were postponed after an outbreak in the Miami clubhouse.  Philly opened the season with Miami.  Tonight’s Orioles-Marlins game in Miami is also postponed.

The Sky are set to take on the Los Angeles Sparks tonight in Florida.  Chicago edged the Las Vegas Aces 88-86 on Sunday in the season opener for both teams.  

The Bears are reporting that they have placed rookie running back Artavis Pierce on the reserve/COVID-19 list.  The new list was created for players who either test positive for the coronavirus or who have been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person.  

The NHL has no new positive coronavirus tests over the last week.  The league says more than 800 players have been tested over that time with no results coming back positive. 

Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) yesterday announced that they made the difficult decision to postpone all conference regular-season competitions and championship events through December 31, 2020.  Aurora University is a member of the NACC.
