ROOTS with ROBB: Queens of the Stone Age

By Billy Thompson Jul 31, 2020 | 12:20 PM

Queens of the Stone Age are one of rock’s best active bands over the last 2 decades while really only having one constant member, Josh Homme.  Over the last few records, they’ve started to settle on a somewhat regular lineup, but at times, QOTSA had the feel of a Supergroup, or at the very least, an extension of Josh’s Desert Sessions recordings.  The who’s who list of guest appearances include: Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan, Trent Reznor, Billy Gibbons, and Elton John.  If this is your first experience of Queens, enjoy.  Robb and I are both big fans, so we talked A LOT about them on this episode.  There’s some great BONUS CONTENT in the 2nd half of the episode including more roots examples (The Beatles, doo-wop, and more) included.  Bonus Content starts at 8:06.

This is a phenomenal documentary on the scene that Homme and Queens of the Stone Age came from.

And here’s a FULL CONCERT of them with Dave Grohl on the kit!
