Monday Sports Update

Keep the radio on 1430 WCMY tonight when the White Sox visit Miller Park to start a four game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. Pe-game begins at 6:35, first pitch at 7:10pm.

 Yesterday the Sox crushed the Royals 9-2 in Kansas City.  Dylan Cease gave up just two runs over six innings.  The White Sox scored seven runs in the seventh to improve to 5-and-4. 

 

Javy Baez singled in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning as the Cubs defeated the Pirates 2-1 at home. Jon Lester gave up just one run over six innings.  The Cubs improve to 7-and-2 and will host the Kansas City Royals tonight.

 

 More St. Louis Cardinals are testing positive for the coronavirus after Saturday’s round of testing. One player and three staff members received positive results.  Tonight’s game against the Detroit Tigers has been postponed.

 

The Daily Times reported today, Ottawa native Michael Hermosillo was the hero Saturday for the Los Angeles Angels. Hermosillo drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning with a sacrifice fly to right field for his first RBI of the year, leading the Angels to 5-4 win against the Houston Astros.

The Blackhawks took down Edmonton 6-4 in Game One of the Stanley Cup Qualifier.  A win tonight would put the Blackhawks one win away from the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

 

Illinois fans will be excited to hear big man Kofi Cockburn is returning to the Fighting Illini for his sophomore season and guard Ayo Dosunmu announced Friday that he plans to withdraw his name from the NBA draft to return to the school for his junior season, 

In the WNBA, Chicago Sky topped the Washington Mystics 88-86 on Saturday.

 

The Chicago Bears has activated running back Artavis Pierce from the COVID/Reserve list.  In return, the team waived running back Napoleon Maxwell. 

 

Also in the NFL, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is positive for the coronavirus.  The team released a statement saying the 52-year-old is feeling well, has been symptom free and is under self-quarantine.  Pederson is the second known NFL head coach to test positive after the Saints’ Sean Payton.

 

Justin Thomas posted a three-shot victory at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational to take over the No. 1 ranking in the world .

 

Brad Keselowski won the NASCAR Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Denny Hamlin finished second and Martin Truex Jr. third.
