Oglesby police to change to 12-hour shifts to get more weekends off

Oglesby’s police officers will soon work 12-hour shifts. The City Council this week approved an agreement to move from ten-hour shifts to 12-hour shifts and to also hire some part time police officers.

The changes are meant to help the officers have weekends off more often. With the way ten-hour shifts rotate, an officer could go more than a month before having a Saturday and Sunday together off. With 12-hour shifts, that could happen every other weekend.

Oglesby also swore in a new police officer this week. Shelby Pellino took the oath of office at the Oglesby City Council meeting.
