Wednesday Sports Update

Last night Eloy Jimenez homered as the White Sox edged the Brewers 3-2 in Milwaukee.  Lucas Giolito got the win for Chicago after giving up just two runs over six innings and struck out nine in the win.  Chicago improves to 7-and-4.

 

Jason Heyward, Jason Kipnis and Willson Contreras homered as the Cubs held off the Royals 5-4 in Chicago.  Kyle Hendricks gave up just two runs over seven innings to pick up the win as the Cubs improved to 9-and-2.  Chicago will visit Kansas City today.

 

 The St Louis Cardinals are clear to return home and are expected to take the field against the Cubs Friday.  Six Cardinals have been announced to test positive for the coronavirus.

 

 The MLB is reducing roster sizes from 30 players to 28.  That number will stay in place for the rest of the season and the postseason.  Each team’s taxi squad will now have five players instead of three.

 

 The Blackhawks will look to push the Oilers to the brink of elimination tonight.  Chicago and Edmonton will square off in a pivotal Game Three of the Best-of-Five Stanley Cup Qualifier. The series is tied at one game apiece.

 

The Chicago Sky clipped the Dallas Wings 82-79 in the WNBA bubble in Bradenton Florida. The Sky are 5-and-1. 

 

The NFL and the Players Association officially have a new collective bargaining agreement in place for the 2020 season. The deal ensures players who choose to opt out due to the pandemic will still be compensated, and outlines safety protocols.

 

 The Indianapolis 500 will be ran without fans this year.  Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced the decision on Tuesday due to the rising of COVID-19 cases in Marion County.  The race is scheduled for August 23rd.

 

The Daily Times reported  the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Banquet in 2020 was officially canceled over the weekend. 

A trio of area hoops luminaries were set to be inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame banquet – Hall girls basketball alumn Kailey Klein, former Marquette girls basketball (and current Marquette boys basketball) coach Todd Hopkins and Ransom Grade School boys basketball coach Harold McKenzie.

The IBCA intends to induct both the 2020 and 2021 Hall of Fame classes at its 2021 banquet.
