A car wash is planned for a spot on Ottawa’s north side near the Culver’s restaurant. Some members of the City Council don’t think that’s the right business for that location.

Commissioner Tom Ganiere thinks the city’s zoning doesn’t adequately address whether a car wash counts as a drive-thru that requires a different permitting process.
City attorney Christina Cantlin says the permitting done for the car wash is appropriate. And Mayor Dan Aussem says City Hall can’t have a heavy hand in what kind of business goes there. If the zoning and permitting are correct, he doesn’t see how the city can say the business can’t be there.
Janko Development owns the property. The permit passed three-to-two.
