Friday Sports Update

Tonight the White Sox begin a home weekend series with the Cleveland Indians

Pre-Game begins at 6:35 with the first pitch at 7:10pm.

 

Leury Garcia homered and drove in three runs but the White Sox lost to the Brewers 8-3 in Chicago.  Gio Gonzalez gave up four runs in defeat.  The Sox are 7-and-6.

 

 Tyler Chatwood gave up eight runs over two and a third innings as the Cubs were crushed 13-2 by the Royals in Kansas City.  The Cubs drop to 10-and-3.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals will finally return to action today.  The Cardinals will host the Cubs at Busch Stadium.  St. Louis has been on the shelf since July 29th, after multiple players and staff tested positive for the coronavirus.  Daniel Ponce de Leon will take the mound for The Cards. 

 

The Blackhawks will look to advance to the First Round of the NHL Playoffs when they face the Oilers in Game Four of the Stanley Cup Qualifiers tonight.  The Blackhawks hold a 2-1 series lead and need just one win to advance.

 

 The deadline for NFL players to opt out due to COVID-19 is now passed.  A total of 67 players chose to opt out.  Training camp is underway for all 32 teams.

 

 The Big Sky conference is canceling college football this season. The school presidents voted on the decision yesterday.  This comes amid the sport’s uncertainty as a result of the pandemic.

 

Jason Day and Brendan Todd are on top of the leaderboard at the PGA Championship in San Francisco.  Both shot a five-under in Thursday’s first round at TPC Harding Park. Tiger Woods sits three shots off the lead at minus-two.

 

NASCAR returns to the Michigan International Speedway for two races this weekend.  The Firekeepers 400 will run tomorrow and the Consumers Energy 400 is set for Sunday.
