The National Weather Service says storm damage along the Illinois and Michigan Canal was from a tornado. It touched down in the canal north of Fulton St. It traveled eastward along the canal all the way to the Fox River, tearing the roof off the Floor to Ceiling store along the way. Trees were broken or uprooted in some residential neighborhoods along the path too. It was estimated to have winds up to 100 miles per hour. It didn’t cause injuries or deaths.
