Thursday Sports Update

Last night on the home for White Sox baseball 1430 WCMY…

James McCann homered twice to help power the White Sox to an 8-1 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  Dane Dunning allowed three hits over six-plus  shutout innings for his first big league win.  The Sox are off today before hosting the Tigers tomorrow night.

 

The Reds blanked the Cubs 3-0 in Chicago.  Yu Darvish struck out nine over six innings but was tagged with the loss after giving up a three-run homer in the first to Mike Moustakas.  The Cubs finished with just three hits in its fourth loss in six games.  The series wraps up tonight with Adbert Alzolay facing Cincinnati’s Sonny Gray.

 

The Cardinals host the Tigers in a doubleheader today.  Jack Flaherty gets the start in Game One and   Austin Gomber will start for St. Louis in Game Two.  The Cards are two-and-a-half games behind the Cubs for first place in the NL Central.

 

The Chicago Sky lost to the Atlanta Dream 97-89 in the WNBA.  The Sky dropped to 11-and-10 with their four straight loss.  They wrap up the regular season tomorrow night against the Dallas Wings. 

 

At The US Open, Serena Williams advances to the women’s semifinals and is seeking her  24th Grand Slam singles title.

 

The NFL regular season officially kicks off tonight in Kansas City.  The defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs will host the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.  It’s the first game action after the entire preseason was wiped out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ottawa Pirates  moved to 3-0 with a win against Sandwich 157-196.

  •   Nick Angus And Jonathan Cooper each scored 38 in the victory.

 

Ottawa JV boys team defeated Sandwich at The Deer Park Course 184 -211. 

  • Will Getz led all scorers.

The Streator Bulldogs defeated Coal City, 175-182. 

  • Streators Jacob Magana led all golfers with a score of 40. 

The Seneca Lady Irish Team lost at home to Fieldcrest 240-255 at the Creek in Morris. 

  •  Seneca’s Laura Yegge led the team with a score of 53

 

Tennis

Ottawa lady Pirates won at home beating Streator 5-0

  • Single winners were Ella marvel and Sara Meyer. 
  • In Doubles: Marta Johnson & Rebekah Felty, Kyleigh Olszewski & Mary Riva and the team of  Avery Landers & Grace Satterfield were all winners

Ottawa girls Junior Varsity defeated Streator 5-0

  • Singles winners:  Jenna Smithmeyer and Emma Cushing
