Tuesday Sports Update

Last night Adam Engel singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth as the White Sox defeated the Twins  3-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Two batters later, Tim Anderson’s double gave Chicago a little breathing room. who have won five straight.  The series continues tonight with Dane Dunning opposing Minnesota’s Randy Dobnak. Pre-game starts at 6:35 with the First pitch at 7:10pm on the home for White Sox baseball 1430 WCMY..

 

The Cubs host the Indians tonight for the start of a two-game set.  Yu Darvish takes the mound against Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco.  Chicago has won three of four while holding a four-game lead in the NL Central over the Cardinals.

Alec Mills is the National League Player of the Week.  The award comes after the Cubs’ right-hander tossed the 16th no-hitter in franchise history against the Brewers on Sunday.

 

The Cardinals split a doubleheader with the Brewers in Milwaukee.  The Brew Crew took the opener 2-1 in extras on a sac-fly in the eighth.  Paul DeJong’s RBI single in the ninth delivered the Cards a 3-2 extra innings victory in Game 2. The series resume tonight with Jack Flaherty throwing against Milwaukee’s Brett Anderson.

 

Last Night was a double header for Monday Night Football’s season opener. In game one, The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated The Giants in New York 26-16 and in Denver. The Tennessee Titans won with a late fourth quarter field beating the Broncos 16-14.

 

The Sky are set to face the Connecticut Sun tonight in the opening round of the WNBA playoffs.

 

In the NHL, The Dallas Stars are headed to the Stanley Cup Final.  Dallas will play either the Lightning or Islanders.

 

 

Local Sports 

In golf, at the Ottawa Pirates Invitational, Yorkville won the team title with a score of 330. The Pirates final score was 340 and earned fourth place at the Deer Park golf course event. Drake Stoudt finished in the top five with a score of 78.

The Woodland golf team lost to host Dwight 197-232 on Monday.

The Earlville boys golf team topped Somonauk, 173-183 at the Earlville Country Club. In the girls match, Earlville was again a winner, 223-257 over the Somonauk Lady Bobcats. 

 

The IHSA Board of Directors met virtually yesterday and approved updates to the Return to Activities guidelines by waiving the 2020-21 season limitations for winter, spring and summer sports that would have restricted those activities to no more than two contests a week. Additionally, the summer season will begin two weeks earlier than initially announced and now can begin practices April 19th and games May 3rd.

The Shepherd Rams won on the at Bureau Valley 6-4. the Rams are now 6-0..
