The Broncos and Jets will square off tonight on Thursday Night Football.

On this date in 1919, the Chicago White Sox lost Game One of the World Series 9-1 to the Cincinnati Reds on purpose. Eight members of the heavily favored White Sox had conspired with gamblers to throw the game to the underdog Reds.  Chicago pitcher Eddie Cicotte hit Reds’ leadoff hitter Morrie Rath with a pitch to signal to the gamblers that the fix was in.  The Reds would win the series in eight games while the eight White Sox players would become known as the Black Sox after being banned for life from Major League Baseball.
