Monday Sports Update

The Lady Pirates defeated Princeton in tennis 4-1.

  • Ella Marvel & Sara Meyer were winners in singles
  • The teams of Kyleigh Olszewski & Mary Riva and Avery Landers & Tessa Thiry won their matches in doubles.

The Ottawa JV tennis team won the interstate 8 conference tournament

  • Emma Cushing was champion in singles Jenna Smithmeyer placed 2nd.
  • The team of  Cora Sisk and Emma Walker placed 1st in doubles.
  •  Rylee O’Fallon and Isabel Heimsoth finished 2nd. Layne Krug and Abi Morris came in 3rd.

 

The ninth annual La Salle County Cross Country Invitational 

In the girls division:

  • Seneca came in 1st  Ottawa was 2nd , L-P finished 3rd, Streator was 4th with  Marquette ending up in 5th. 
  • Lady Pirates Grace Carroll led all girls with a time of 19:36

In the boys team standings:

  • Seneca Placed 1st, L-P finished 2nd, Streator was 3rd,  Mendota 4th, Marquette 5th and Ottawa ended in 6th place.
  • Marquette Crusader Lucas Hoffman finished ahead of all runners by nearly 30 seconds with a winning time of 16:13.

 

There was Junior High Regional action this weekend.

The Grand Ridge Mohawks are the IESA Class 1A regional championship in baseball by defeating Marquette 8-0.

 

The Woodland softball team claimed the class 1A regional championship with an 8-0 victory over Ransom/St. Michael, 

 

Fieldcrest outscored Heyworth 7-5 in the 2A class regional in baseball. 

 

Marquette Academy outlasted Serena in softball 4-2  to capture the class 1A regional crown. 

 

And in the class 3A regional baseball championship, The Shepherd Rams defeated Morris 9-5.

 

The Chicago Bears lost to the Colts 19-11 at Soldier Field.   The Bears have a quick turnaround when they host Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Thursday nightFootball.

Elsewhere in the NFC North, The Vikings outscored the Texans 31-23. The Lions lost to the Saints 35-29.

The Packers will host the Falcons in Green Bay tonight on Monday Night Football.

The Patriots and Chiefs will also play tonight as part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader.  The NFL moved the game from Sunday after New Englnad’s QB Cam Newton tested positive for the coronavirus.

 

The Fire earned a 2-2 draw against the Montreal Impact Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.

 

Denny Hamlin won the YellaWood 500 in NASCAR at Talladega Superspeedway

 

Sergio Garcia won in the PGA at the Sanderson Farms Championship by one shot in Jackson, Mississippi.
