Monday Sports Update

The IVCC men’s golf team placed second at the NJCAA Region 4 Championship to earn a bid to the NJCAA National Championship in May.

  • The Eagles Ian Roach won with a 229 and Clay Wells placed 6th with a 239.

 

At the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament in Tennis at Ottawa High School 

  • The Lady Cavaliers claimed the conference title scoring 33 points.
  • The Lady Pirates placed 2nd with a score of 31
  • Kaneland was 3rd, Sycamore 4th, Morris 5th and Rochelle finishing in 6th.
  • Ottawa’s Sara Meyer was a winner in singles 
  • Kyleigh Olszewski and Mary Riva won in Doubles.

 

The Ottawa cross country teams traveled to the  Metamora Runnin’ Red Invitational at Black Partridge Park

  • Lexi Jett,  Lainey Billings and Eva Heimsoth led the Lady Pirates.
  • Liam Tipple and Thomas Reinhardt led the way for Ottawa in the boys division.

 

The Los Angeles Lakers are the 2020 NBA Champions.  The Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 106-93 in Game Six of the NBA Finals on Sunday to win the 17th championship in franchise history. 

 

On Sunday Night Football, the Seahawks outscored the Vikings 27-26 

 

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a gruesome looking ankle injury against the New York Giants. The Cowboys won with a game ending field goal 37-34.

 

The winless Falcons are cutting ties with head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff.  They were both fired after Atlanta fell to 0-and-5 with a loss to Carolina.  

 

The LA Chargers will face the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.

 

In Game One of the ALCS. The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Houston Astros 2-1. The Rays take a 1-0 series lead.

 

Tonight The National League Championship Series gets started with The Atlanta Braves and LA Dodgers play Game One of their best-of-seven series in Arlington, Texas. 

 

The Chicago Fire defeated D.C. United 2-1 in the MLS at Soldier Field. 

 

Rafael Nadal is now tied with Roger Federer for the most Grand Slam singles titles by a man. Nadal claimed his 20th career major championship at the French Open over the weekend.

 

In NASCAR, Chase Elliott won the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
