Monday Sports Update

The Lady Pirates earned their 4th straight tennis  title in the  class 1A sectional on their home courts at Ottawa High School with a team score of 32 on Saturday.

  • Ella Marvel was crowned the Sectional Champion in Singles 
  • In doubles the team of Mary Riva and Kyleigh Olszewski finished taking 2nd place. Partners Marta Johnson & Rebekah Felty were able to clinch third-place 

 

This weekend  The Ottawa Pirates competed in The Interstate 8 Cross-Country Conference Championships

In the boys division, The Pirates finished with a score of 225

  • Aaron Noble led the Pirates with a time of 19:56
  • The Kaneland Knights had a score of 30 to clinch the Championship 

 

The Lady Pirates placed 5th with a score of 150

  • Ottawa’s Lainey Billings ran a time of 21:54 to finish 10th
  • The Kaneland girls won with a winning score of 33

 

 

Also this weekend The Fighting Irish hosted their last regular season cross-country meet in Seneca.

  • Seneca’s Amber Vroman  led all girls with a time of 21:08. 
  •  Ashley Alsvig placed 2nd and Audrey Jenkins finished 3rd for the Lady Irish
  • Marquette’s Lilly Craig  Led the Lady Crusaders with a 5th place finish
  • Streators Lily Kupec finished 7th for the Lady Bulldogs     

 

In the Boys Division, Marquette’s Lucas Hoffman  Led all runners with a time of 17:01    

  • The Fighting Irish’s  Austin Aldridge led the Seneca team with 2nd place finish.        
  • Leading the Streator team was Kody Danko who placed 3rd for the Bulldogs   

 

 

The Chicago Bears held on to defeat the Carolina Panthers 23-16 in Charlotte.  Quarterback Nick Foles threw for a touchdown and rushed for another as the Bears improved to 5-and-1 and move into first place in the NFC North. Elsewhere in the NFC North:

  • The Vikings Lost to the Falcons 40-23
  • The Lions defeated the Jaguars 34-16
  • And The Packers got dominated by the Buccaneers in Tampa 38-10

 

Monday Night Football will be a double-header due to a Covid reschedule:

  •  The Kansas City Chiefs travel to the Buffalo Bills
  •  And The Dallas Cowboys host the Arizona Cardinals 

 

The World Series matchup is set.  The Tampa Bay Rays and the LA Dodgers will begin the best-of-seven Fall Classic tomorrow at Globe Life Field in Arlington Texas.  The Rays are looking for their first World Series title, while the Dodgers are chasing their first since 1988.

 

Jason Kokrak won his first PGA tournament at The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek in Vegas. 

 

The Chicago Fire battled to a 2-2 tie against Kansas City Saturday at Soldier Field in the MLS.

 

In NASCAR, Joey Logano held off Kevin Harvick in the final second to win the Hollywood Casino 400 at The Kansas Speedway.
