Ottawa adopts first food truck regulation

By Billy Thompson Oct 21, 2020 | 2:35 PM

Just in time for a food truck festival in Ottawa this weekend, the City Council has approved the city’s first food truck regulations. Mayor Dan Aussem says they cover state and local licenses and inspections.

The City Council started work on food truck regulations after 18 restaurant and bar owners sent a letter to the mayor asking for them. They don’t want out-of-town vendors coming in during peak business times and then just leaving without investing anything in the community.

Aussem says regulations that cover more, such as when and where food trucks can operate, may be done in 2021.
