Wednesday Sports Update

Yesterday The L-P  co-op swim team lost to Bloomington Central Catholic 79-49 in their final regular-season meet at the Illinois Valley YMCA.

  • Peyton Heagy won the 100-yard breaststroke and placed second in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.
  • Addie Duttlinger earned a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle 

 

The Dodgers pounded the Rays 8-3 in Game One of the World Series in Arlington Texas.  Clayton Kershaw gave up just one run over six innings and struck out eight for Los Angeles.  Tyler Glasnow gave up six runs over four innings for the Rays.  The Dodgers take a 1-0 series lead.  Game Two of the world series is tonight.

 

The Chicago Bears signed the veteran linebacker Manti Te’o to its practice squad.  Te’o has appeared in 62 games over seven NFL seasons with the Chargers and Saints, recording 307 tackles, two interceptions, and one-and-a-half sacks.  The Hawaii native was selected by the Chargers in the second round of the 2013 draft out of Notre Dame.  

 

The New Orleans Saints announced it will allow three-thousand season ticket holders for Sunday’s game. Six-thousand fans could be able to attend their November 15th home game if local health guidelines allow.  Other teams to allow fans include the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.

 

A couple new coaches for the NBA  next season, The Pacers have named Toronto Raptors assistant Nate Bjorkgren  as their next head coach.  He replaces Nate McMillan, who was fired after Indiana was swept in the first round of the playoffs.

The LA Clippers officially named Tyronn Lue the 26th coach in franchise history on Tuesday.  Lue replaces Doc Rivers, who stepped down last month after seven years in LA.  Lue served as an assistant for the Clippers under Rivers. 

 

Some good news for College athletes, The NCAA is moving forward with legislation that would allow student athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness.  The Division I Council met this week to discuss the changes and says the move is just pending a final vote in January, which will take place during the NCAA Convention.  They also introduced a measure that would make it easier for athletes to transfer to other schools, eliminating a lot of the current restrictions.

 

St. Louis based Rawlings Sporting Goods is agreeing to purchase Easton Diamond Sports, merging the country’s top softball and baseball sporting goods companies. Rawlings was founded in 1887 and is the MLB’s official supplier of baseballs, gloves, faceguards and helmets.
