Thursday Sports Update

The World Series is tied at a game apiece following the Tampa Bay Rays’ 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brandon Lowe drove in three runs with a pair of homers while the Rays were building a 5-0 lead. Joey Wendle added a two-run double and three RBIs for Tampa Bay. Game Three is tomorrow.

 

An NFC East showdown takes place tonight on Thursday Night Football as the Eagles host the Giants.  The Eagles are 1-4-and-1 while the Giants are 1-and-5.

 

Bears kicker Cairo Santos is the NFC special teams player of the week.  He received the award for his performance in last Sunday’s 23-16 win over the Panthers.  Santos made all three field-goal attempts including His booming 55-yarder with two-seconds left in the first half.

 

NFL Free-agent wide receiver Antonio Brown is gaining interest from several football teams as his suspension comes to a close.  Brown’s suspension ends after Week Eight.

 

Penn State men’s basketball coach Pat Chambers has resigned following an internal investigation into allegations of his inappropriate conduct. Chambers had been at the school for nine years and was coming off the team’s best season under his direction, going 21-10.

 

LSU is self-imposing several penalties for rules violations. The program is also banning former LSU wide receiver and current Cleveland Browns star Odell Beckham Jr. for two years after he distributed two-thousand-dollars to players.

 

The Florida football program is remaining closed until Monday after another positive test for COVID-19.  Head football coach Dan Mullen says they received the 26th positive test Wednesday, but added that the majority of the players had minor symptoms.  The Gators’ next game is against Missouri on Halloween.

 

In the NBA, The New Orleans Pelicans are bringing in Stan Van Gundy to fill their coaching vacancy. Van Gundy has previously coached the Pistons, Magic and Heat.

 

The LPGA is returning to Georgia for the first time since 2006. The Drive On Championship will tee off today at Reynolds Lake in Greensboro.

 

Former Masters champion Adam Scott has tested positive for the coronavirus and has pulled out of the Zozo Championship at Sherwood. Scott is the second high-profile golfer to test positive in as many weeks. Number one ranked Dustin Johnson tested positive last week in Las Vegas.
