Monday Sports Update

In the Class 2A Regional at Morris High School

Two local Teams are advancing to the Sectionals in Peoria on Saturday 

  • The LP boys team with a 4th place finish
  • The Cavaliers Ryan Hartman placed 3rd overall with a time 16:27’
  • And The Ottawa Girls team will advance with a 5th place finish. 
  • Lainey Billings led The Lady Pirates with a time of 20:37 and placed 10th overall.
  • Individual runners advancing to sectionals will be: Streator’s Kody Danko, Abby Seaton and Lily Kupec, Ottawa Pirate Liam Tipple and Lady Cavalier Brianna Pijanowski.

 

In the Cross-Country Class 1A regional at St Bede.

  • Marquette’s Lucas Hoffman dominated the day for his second straight boys individual regional title. Hoffman will be making his  fourth-consecutive sectional appearance.

 

Both the boys and girls teams from Seneca placed 2nd in their divisions.

  • Seneca’s Ashley Alsvig & Amber Vroman finished 3rd & 4th overall in the girls division. 
  • Austin Aldridge led the Fighting Irish with a 7th place finish.

 

 

The LP CO-OP swim team traveled to Rock Island for Class 2A Sectional on Saturday.

  • Lady Cavalier Peyton Heagy repeated as the Sectional champion in the 50 freestyle. Heagy also placed 2nd  in the 100 freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke.

 

 

The Los Angeles Dodgers are just a win away from their first World Series championship since 1988.  They beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 in Game Five in Arlington, Texas.  The Dodgers now lead the best-of-seven matchup three-games-to-two. Game six is tomorrow night.

 

The Illini fell 45-7 at number-11 Wisconsin on Friday in the season opener.  Illinois hosts Purdue on Saturday.

  • Notre Dame won on the road at Pittsburgh 45-3
  • Northwestern defeated Maryland 43-3

 

The Chicago Bears and the LA Rams are set to do battle tonight on Monday Night Football in Los Angeles. Yesterday in the NFC North The Lions pulled out a win against Atlanta Falcons 23-22 and The Packers beat the Texans 35-20

 

The Chicago Fire earned a 2-2 draw versus the New York Red Bulls Saturday at Soldier Field. 

 

In the PGA, Patrick Cantlay won The ZOZO Championship in Thousand Oaks, California. 

 

Ally McDonald won the LPGA “Drive On Championship” at Lake Reynolds for her first tour title.

 

The Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 will Crun today at Texas Motor Speedway. The race was postponed Sunday because the track was too wet from rain.
