The Ottawa City Council authorized a grant agreement Wednesday morning between the City of Ottawa and the Illinois Department of Commerce to help fund a project to separate storm sewer flows.

Ottawa Mayor Dan Aussem discussed the situation:

Four overflow points were identified by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to close first because they are discharging to recreation sites utilized for boating and fishing.

The grant would cover $500,000 of the project with an additional $130,000 coming from the city’s combined sewer service fees. The city has paid the engineering and grant application fees which was the final hurdle up until Wednesday’s Council authorization.

This notice has been on file for public inspection since October 20, 2020.
