Mail-in voting window closing; voting in-person is still an option

With the window for mail-in voting closing, in-person voting is still underway. LaSalle County Clerk Lori Bongartz says her office at the Etna Rd. courthouse in Ottawa will take you from 8am to 7pm Thursday and Friday, 8am to noon Saturday, 10am to 4pm Sunday, and 8am to 4:30pm Monday.

Sometimes, there are lines. Bongartz says the wait can be up to a half hour. But much of the time, there’s no wait.

It’s not too late to update voter registration.

Mail-in ballots need to be postmarked by next Tuesday. They can also be put in a ballot box in the east parking lot at the courthouse on Etna Rd. Bongartz believes it’s secure from tampering because the slot is wide enough to fit a ballot but not someone’s hand or anything else.
