Friday Sports Update

The Chicago White Sox are tops in the American League with three Silver Slugger winners this season.  The annual award is presented to the best offensive player at each position in both the American & National Leagues.  First baseman Jose Abreu, shortstop Tim Anderson and outfielder Eloy Jimenez all represent The White Sox.

The Bears are cleared to return to Halas Hall and resume football activities today.  Reports say the team closed the practice facility and paused all in-person football activities yesterday morning after learning that center Cody Whitehair tested positive for COVID-19. 

 

The Bears will still visit the Titans on Sunday.  Chicago is 5-and-3 after dropping two straight.  Tennessee enters at 5-and-2.

Last night Aaron Rodgers passed for four touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers dominated the 49ers 34-17 on Thursday Night Football. The Pack improved to 6-and-2.  The loss drops the Niners to 4-and-5.

The Illini is still looking for their first win of the season and will host Minnesota tomorrow.  Illinois dropped to 0-and-2 after falling 31-24 to Purdue this past Saturday.  The Gophers are also 0-and-2. Northwestern will host Nebraska this weekend And the Big game of the week will be Number four ranked Notre Dame taking on Top ranked Clemson at South Bend Saturday Night.

Two more college football games are being called off tomorrow due to coronavirus concerns.  The Air Force’s game at Army has been postponed and the Navy’s home game against Tulsa.  It’s Tulsa’s fourth game affected by COVID-19 this season.  Wisconsin-Purdue was previously canceled.

Over in the PGA Brandt Snedeker shot a 65 to lead after round one of The Houston Open at Memorial Park in Texas.   

The NASCAR Championship is set to take place Sunday at The Phoenix.  Speedway in Arizona.
