Changes made at veterans home after COVID outbreak

By WCMY News Nov 24, 2020 | 3:07 PM

The veterans home in LaSalle is getting a different brand of hand sanitizer to use in the fight against the coronavirus. The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs says staff are being trained again on mask use and the process for screening employees for symptoms is being changed. Employees are given rapid antigen tests to find out if they’ve contracted the virus.

A coronavirus outbreak at the home has claimed 27 lives. It has infected more than 100 residents and more than 90 employees. And the state is having the Inspector General of the Department of Human Services investigate any protocol lapses that may have spurred the outbreak.
