Fireworks will signal start of Ottawa Deck the Parks

Ottawa City Commissioner Marla Rodriguez says Ottawa’s “Deck the Parks” event will kick off Friday at 6pm. She says wherever you are in Ottawa at that time, look toward downtown. There’ll be a brief fireworks display. But she doesn’t want people gathering in a big crowd that could spread the coronavirus.

Rodriguez says the lighted decorations will be turned on at eight city parks, the Jordan Block, Washington Square, and at the wooden stage in the Riverfront area. She says she doesn’t want people flocking downtown for the fireworks show, because the crowd would make it easy to spread the coronavirus and the Festival of Lights was cancelled for that reason.

Various sponsors including the Girl Scouts and local sports clubs, artists, and businesses arranged for volunteers to make the decorations. The parks with decorations are Thornton, Hollywood, Rigden, Turnberry, East Side, Varland, Peck, and Kiwanis.
