Tuesday Sports Update

  Last night on Monday Night Football, Seattle is alone in first place in the NFC West  as the Seahawks held off the Eagles 23-17 in Philadelphia.  Seattle is now 8-and-3.  Philly fell to 3-7-and-1 in the NFC East.

The Ravens and Steelers will have to wait at least one more day to get their Week 12 game in.  The contest is being moved for a third time to tomorrow afternoon after a COVID-19 outbreak among the Ravens. The AFC North battle was scheduled to be played on Thanksgiving NIght. Baltimore is  6-and-4, while Pittsburgh is undefeated at 10-and-0.

Bears coach Matt Nagy is challenging his team following Sunday night’s 41-25 blowout loss to the Packers in Green Bay.  Speaking to the media yesterday, Nagy described his team’s performance as “flat-out embarrassing” and “ridiculous.”  He warned that the team needs to step up in the five remaining games of the regular season.  The Bears trailed 41-10 entering the fourth quarter Sunday en route to their fifth straight loss. The Bears host the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Northwestern’s football game at Minnesota this Saturday was canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Gophers program.  The game won’t be rescheduled and will be ruled a no contest.  The cancellation could secure the Big Ten West title for the 5-and-1 Wildcats and a berth in the conference championship game December 19th.

The DePaul men’s basketball team is postponing Thursday’s home game against the NIU Huskies.  The decision was made to allow the Blue Demons time to regain conditioning after a pause in activities due to COVID-19.  The Blue Demons now plan to open the season Sunday at Iowa State as part of the Big 12-Big East Battle.

Illinois’ Adam Miller has been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week.  Miller won the award after averaging 18 points in all three Illini wins last week. Tenth-ranked Illinois travels to Indianapolis to take on the number-one ranked Baylor Bears tomorrow in the Jimmy V Classic.

There will be no Sun Bowl for the first time in over eight decades due to COVID-19 concerns. The event was set to take place on December 31st in El Paso, Texas.  It’s been played every year for 86 years making it the second longest running college bowl game after the Rose Bowl.

And It’s time for the NBA to gear up for the start of the 2020-21 season.  Training camps are opening up around the league today.  The preseason will run from December 11th through the 19th, with teams playing at least twice.  The season starts on December 22nd.
