LaSalle County GOP alleges missing votes

The LaSalle County Republican Party is now alleging that 5,733 votes are missing. And the party says the bulk of them could be for former State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly and Illinois House challenger Travis Breeden. They both lost the election, at least according to the results made known on election night.

In its latest court filing on Thursday, the party says County Clerk Lori Bongartz reported 16,483 mail-in or absentee votes. But the party says the mail-in vote tally went up by only 10,750 on election night. In its complaint, the party says if the missing mail-in votes can’t be accounted for, all the mail-in votes should be dismissed.

The lawyer for Bongartz asked Friday for more time to prepare an answer. Grundy County Judge Robert Marsaglia scheduled a hearing for next Wednesday morning for the lawyers for the Republican Party and for the County Clerk to update another judge on what needs to be done next. Marsaglia is retiring, so the case will go to another judge.
