Wednesday Sports Update

The Bulls open the season tonight by hosting the Atlanta Hawks at the United Center.  Chicago is beginning its first season with new head coach Billy Donovan. 

The Bulls finished the preseason 3-and-1.   

Last night Northern Illinois lost on the road to Toledo 78-55. The Huskies are now 1-6.

Missouri’s Jeremiah Tilmon’s three-point play with a second left lifted Mizzou  over Bradley 54-53. After a hard fought matchup, The Braves are 6-3 on the season.

 

Today in college basketball

No. 18 Illinois is looking to bounce back on the road to face Penn State.  The Illini came up short in a 91-88 game at Rutgers on Sunday and are 5-3 on the season. The Nittany Lions are 3-and-2. 

The 4-1 Northwestern Wildcats will face the hosting Indiana Hoosiers who are 5-2. The last victory for the Wildcats at Indiana was January of 2014.

 

The BYU Cougars routed UCF Knights 49-23 in the Boca Raton Bowl. and The  Nevada Wolf pack beat the Green Wave of Tulane 38-27 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

 

Tonight Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will face the Georgia Southern Eagles in the  New Orleans Bowl. The Bulldogs from Conference USA are going for a seventh consecutive bowl win under coach Skip Holtz who is also pursuing his 150th career victory as a head coach. This is the fourth bowl appearance for the Eagles of the Sun Belt Conference.

 

And, The new Montgomery Bowl in Alabama  will have The Memphis Tigers Taking on The Florida Atlantic Owls. The game was created after the cancellation of the Fenway Bowl.

The Chicago Cubs are adding depth to their outfield by claiming Phillip Ervin off waivers from the Mariners.  Ervin is coming off a rough 2020 season, hitting only .149 in 37 games between stops with Cincinnati and Seattle.  However in 2019, he hit .271 with seven homers, 11 doubles and seven triples with the Reds.
