Thursday Sports Update

Last night the Bulls lost their season opener to the Atlanta Hawks 124-104 at the United Center.  Zach LaVine led Chicago with 22 points. This weekend the Bulls will host the Indiana Pacers on Saturday and the Golden State Warriors on Sunday

 

Ayo Dosunmu scored a game-high 30 points to lead 18th-ranked Illinois to a 98-81 win on the road over Penn State. Kofi Cockburn tallied 23 points for the Illini, who improved to 6-and-3.  Illinois is back at the State Farm Center on Saturday to take on the Indiana Hoosiers.

Northwestern traveled to Indiana and defeated the Hoosiers 74-67. The Wildcats are now 5-1 and will host the Buckeyes on Saturday.

 

In Bowl game action, The Georgia Southern Eagles dominated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 38-3 in the New Orleans Bowl.  And, in the  Montgomery Bowl in Alabama   the Memphis Tigers defeated Florida Atlantic 25-10. 

 

Today we have the “New Mexico Bowl in Frisco Texas” with the Houston Cougars taking on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.

 

During  the holiday weekend 

 

Marshall and Buffalo will meet in the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama on Christmas Day. 

 

No. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette will seek its seventh straight victory when it faces UTSA in the First Responder Bowl on Saturday in Dallas.

 

Georgia State and Western Kentucky are heading to Mobile, Alabama for the Lending Tree Bowl. Both teams have five regular-season wins heading into Saturday’s matchup. 

 

Unbeaten  No. 9 Coastal Carolina and No. 23 Liberty will get to play in the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Florida. 

 

The NFL will have a game on Christmas Night when 6-8 Vikings will do battle with 10-4 Saints  in New Orleans. The Saints can clinch the NFC South with a victory.

 

 The Bears hit the road to take on the Jaguars on Sunday.  Chicago enters at 7-and-7, while Jacksonville is 1-and-13.  The Bears are fighting for a playoff berth, entering Sunday’s matchup one game behind the 8-and-6 Cardinals for the third and final NFC Wild Card spot. 

 

The Blackhawks open the season on the road against the Tampa Bay lightning on January 13th.  Chicago’s home opener is January 22nd against the Detroit Redwings.  The Hawks begin training camp on January 3rd without any preseason games.  The Blackhawks won’t be hosting fans in the United Center for at least the beginning of the season.
